Her business focuses on helping groups achieve their goals and teaching management ‘soft skills’ topics. She is currently working with Silicon Valley Clean Energy as Outreach Coordinator. Teen Challenge Residential Substance Abuse Rehab Centers

Spencer grew up surrounded by family members that were substance abusers. He was a full-blown addict by age 15. He entered Long Island Teen Challenge in 2010. His parents died from the substance abuse issues they had.
Spencer is married to Danielle, a Teen Challenge graduate. She is also the Program Director for South Bay Teen Challenge. They have a nine year old girl, Grace, and a three year old boy, Abraham. He is currently attending SJCC, working on a dual degree for chemical dependency counseling & business.
He is on the “Tech Team” for the Mayor’s Gang Prevention Task Force. He has been the Director of South Bay Teen Challenge in San Jose since April of 2014. He manages two residential centers, the Alum Rock Women & Children Center & the Asbury Family Center. He plans to get his ministerial credentials and to open more Teen Challenge discipleship programs and re-entry houses in the Bay Area.

Steve Eckert, Licensed Clinical Social Worker is a seasoned behavioral health services Chief Executive Officer who has deep expertise in serving children, youth and their families. Steve is the new Chief Executive Officer of Alum Rock Counseling Center, a 44 year well respected and growing multiservice counseling nonprofit with 100 caring staff and 50 volunteers, serving 3000 children and families primarily in East San Jose in our clinic and in over 50 schools. While at East Bay Agency for Children, he managed contracts with 30 different school sites, opened a health center, operated after school and family resource centers, and ran a therapeutic pre-school. He subsequently led the largest behavioral health agency in the North Bay, providing behavioral health services for adults. Steve has been engaged in fundraising for many years, and is very comfortable meeting with donors and funders. Steve has been very active in county provider consortiums and state-wide associations, and is known and respected by peers in the East Bay, North Bay and around the State. |

Chris Allen, Deputy Center Director for San Jose Job Corps Center, will give an overview of the Job Corps Center. There will also be a description of the community outreach program. Mr. Chris Allen has over fifteen years being in education in various roles as a counselor, teacher and administrator. He has nine years of Job Corps experience and six as the Deputy Center Director of the San Jose Job Corps Center. He is passionate and committed to the success of young adults and believes strongly in leadership and personal accountability. He graduated the Job Corps Executive Management Program obtaining his Master Degree in Management and also has a Master Degree in Education Counseling. Please see attached file for photo.

State of the State of California

Ash Kalra was elected to represent the 27th Assembly District in November 2016 and is the first Indian American elected to the State Legislature. The district encompasses eastern portions of the city of San Jose. A resident of that city for most of his life, Ash previously represented the 2nd District on the San Jose City Council. During his time serving as a councilmember, he provided a voice on a number of issue areas, including improved schools and transportation options, and a cleaner environment as well as providing the tools for effective public safety. Notably, he has fought to maintain funding in the face of cuts to public safety, specifically to restore the San Jose Police Department’s burglary unit and the Violent Crimes Enforcement Team. He has also worked to bring economic incentives to the area and given a strong voice to extend BART into Silicon Valley. Before serving on the city council, Ash spent 11 years as an attorney in the Santa Clara Public Defender’s Office. Previously, he taught at San Jose State University and at high schools in Washington DC. During his tenure on the city council, he was a law professor at Lincoln Law School of San Jose. Among the many non-profit boards that he has served include the Santa Clara County Bar Association, the Asian Law Alliance, Somos Mayfair, and the South Asian Bar Association. Ash lives in Hayes, the same San Jose neighborhood where he grew up. He is one of the founders of the Hayes Neighborhood Association. He is a graduate of the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he has a degree in communications and has a law degree from Georgetown University. |

Hope for Hans

Since 1997, Michelle has been instrumental in developing programs designed to assist single parents, low-income families, and senior citizens in the Bay Area with food, clothing and holiday meals. She also leads teams of volunteers in visiting the homeless along the creeks to distribute food, clothing and personal hygiene items. In December 2011, she accepted a commendation by the City of San Jose in recognition “for support of the community and continually making an impact in the City of San Jose. “It was also in 1997 that Michelle made her first trip to India, which became an annual occurrence while she worked on feeding the orphans and building a girls’ home, which opened in 2008. For the past several years, she has taken food and clothing to the dumps and leper colonies in Hyderabad. In 2011, Michelle began micro-financing programs in now fifteen different leper colonies. General stores, goat farms and sewing shops have been started. Other projects include sponsoring children in orphanages and digging wells to provide clean water. Michelle has founded a non-profit organization called Hope for Hansen’s Just for those affected by the disease. She is currently writing her first book titled: The Untouchables. |

Bio: Kelsey is the Education Programs Coordinator for the Santa Clara Valley Audubon Society and teaches elementary school students about birds and the importance of conservation. She graduated from UC Davis with a B.S. in psychology and a minor in wildlife, fish, and conservation biology. Before joining SCVAS, Kelsey taught 4th graders about watersheds and native plants followed by a stint in the conservation corps. Description of Talk: Kelsey will go over the different birds we have in the area, along with details about their habitats and adaptations. She will discuss how to attract birds into your yard, and general information about nest boxes and feeders! |
