Rotary Year 2019 - 2020

Saturday, July 13th, 2019 - Back To School Drive - Donate/Pack a Backpack for Kindergarten or 1st grade.

This is first of the RY 2019 - 2020 community service projects. Our club has signed up for 50 backpacks to be donated to the 'Family Giving Tree' organization. Please sign up for donating the backpack or come and help us pack the backpack to be given from the club funds.

Old Projects:

Fishing in the City: The Club sponsors an annual "Fishing in the City" trip for third grade students from a local elementary school. Prior to the trip the third graders are taught water ecology, knot tying, and casting at their school. The students and some parents & teachers are transported to Lake Cunningham Park where they are paired with Interactors from Piedmont Hills, Silver Creek, Independence, Foothill, Evergreen and/or Mount Pleasant high schools. We provide lunch and a fishing tackle box for each third grader. The elements that make the event such a success are the involvement of the Interact mentors and their focus and acknowledgement of the third graders.

Richard D. King Speech Contest: The Club sponsors a Speech Contest for the students in the eleven high schools of the East SideUnionHighSchool District. The East Side Teachers Association assists by printing and distributing the Speech Contest materials to the students.

Thanksgiving "Baskets": We shop and pack bags with turkeys and all the trimmings for student parents participating in Foothill High School's Family Learning Center. We can usually provide dinners for 24 families.

Elefante Blanco Thrift Boutique: Donates clothing to community organizations, outfits first time job-seekers, donates proceeds when able to Rotary projects, provides name recognition for Rotary and the RC of SJE/E in the community at large.

Dictionary Project: In 2007 personal dictionaries were provided to each third, fourth, and fifth grade student at Toyon Elementary School. Additionally, any new student who entered the school after the distribution of dictionaries received a dictionary. This year we will provide all third grades at the school with dictionaries.
